Working in small groups or individually, students will be given tasks to complete. Tasks include activities such as surveys, visits to different places (market, libraries, shops, sports centres, museums, etc). Students will carry out the given task following the instructions they will find on their worksheets. These tasks will be followed by a feedback session the following day in which results are contrasted and conclusions made plus any problems that may have arisen will be discussed.

CULTURAL VISITS: Among the ones that students love are: A guided tour around Oviedo's old quarter (exclusively for our students); A visit to Gijón with a walk along its beaches and cliffs; A visit to the Mining Museum to experience a coal mine and what it was like to work there not so long ago; A walk around a typical rural village to find out about lifestyle there; And a "espicha" (Asturian traditional meal) to finish the course...

ACTIVITIES IN ASTURIAS

Located in the heart of Cantabrian Spain, Asturias delights in the geographical features which make it a true natural Paradise.

Its gentle climate and comfortable summer weather invites both the cultural and rural tourist as well as the beach lover.

Fresh air enthusiasts can practise land sports such as climbing, trekking or horse riding, or the water sports of sailing, wind surfing, and sea or fresh water fishing. Asturias has also a number of excellent sports centres, several 9-hole golf courses and a light air craft field.

Oviedo, the capital of the Principality of Asturias, is set 28 km from the coast. This modern, classical city has a great historical and cultural heritage, from the pre-romanic monuments, to the 16 th century old quarter and university.

It is absolutely true to say that Oviedo has something for everyone.

For Culture vultures: Oviedo is rich in art and culture with many museums and monuments to visit - particularly the pre-romanic churches of Santa Maria del Naranco and Miguel del Lillo. It also has many modern art galleries and opera and classical music in the Campoamor theatre and the new Auditorium.

For Nature lovers, Asturias is a natural paradise - beautiful walks and treks in the low hills, along rivers and streams, and up in the higher mountains. There are also many nature reserves within easy reach of Oviedo.

Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the excellent facilities of the sports complexes and clubs, golf courses, hippodrome, swimming pools, and of course, skiing in the colder months.

Beach lovers will have to travel only 30-45 minutes to any one of a number of beaches - some secluded, some bursting with life.

If you are a night owl, visit the old part of Oviedo which contains some of the best Celtic bars in Spain, and many other pubs and discos which don't close till late - normally in time for breakfast!

The city itself is a delightful mixture of old and new architecture, with many parks and green places, pedestrian areas, shops of all descriptions and innumerable cafes and bars.

CBCE also offers optional excursions to the Asturian coast and mountains upon request. They are not included in course price.
